Out with the Old, in with the New: Pace Chooses Radiant RFID's Asset Tracking Solution

rfid asset trackingAUSTIN, Texas - Radiant RFID is pleased to announce that Pace, the Suburban Bus Division of the Regional Transportation Authority, awarded RFP 407050 to Radiant RFID for a new asset tracking system that will be used to perform inventories at Pace headquarters, operating divisions and carrier locations.

Pace’s requirements for a new system included high portability, capacity to communicate in all types of environments and ability to interface with Pace’s existing accounting system. Radiant RFID’s Virtual Asset Tracker (VAT) exceeded these requirements and is now being used to track and inventory all assets at Pace.

Pace TransportationPace implemented the latest version of Virtual Asset Tracker which includes the following RFID software: VAT Desktop Client, VAT Mobile Client installed on Motorola MC3190Z RFID Handhelds, VAT Web Client available to all inquiring users, VAT Web Reporting and Online Asset Transfer. VAT replaces a system and various devices that were beyond their designed and useful life and enables Pace to continue to use existing bar code labels while moving toward an ultimate goal of placing passive RFID tags on all assets.

During the implementation phase, Radiant RFID imported all Pace asset and location data and created a cloud-based database available for Pace system administrators. Prior to on-site training, Radiant worked directly with Pace end users from finance, MIS and operations to create a complete system for testing and evaluation. During the weeklong training, Radiant focused entirely on key-system functionality and improving Pace inventory processes designed to increase inventory accuracy and decrease the amount of time and effort required to conduct inventory. At the conclusion of the training, Pace was able to conduct an end-to-end inventory on a subset of its assets.

Keller ISD and Durham School Services Select Radiant RFID's BusRide Online Transportation Solution

school bus student trackingKELLER, Texas -- After a majority of voters rejected Keller ISD’s tax ratification election, regular bus transportation - free transportation to and from school for students outside a two-mile radius of their campus - was one of the items designated for reduction. Rather than eliminate the program, the Keller ISD Board directed KISD administration to explore the possibilities of a fare-based transportation system, in which families could pay for their student bus service.

KISD logo“Keller ISD’s innovative pay-for-ride system will operate in much the same way as a city bus pass. Families will pay up-front for a pass – either monthly or by the semester,” said Superintendent Dr. James Veitenheimer. “Keller ISD remains committed to providing exceptional educational opportunities for all students. While we understand that the lack of free transportation puts a greater burden on our families, we remain dedicated to making sure that students are able to make it to school safely, every day and on time. If a student shows up at the bus stop and has not paid, he or she will not be turned away.”

Designed specifically for school districts, Radiant RFID's K-12 Solutions can be deployed as individual modules or as a complete suite of applications including a school bus locating and manifesting module, classroom attendance module, access control module, IT asset tracking module, and emergency management module.

“Working closely with our transportation partner Durham School Services, Radiant RFID has developed a registration and payment portal at http://www.busrideonline.com for parents to pay online using a credit card or debit card prior to the start of school,” said Chief Technology Officer Joe Griffin, “and Radiant will issue student ID cards with embedded RFID tags to student bus riders for all 72 regular routes for the 2011-2012 school year.”

“Using RFID tags and readers, our bus tracking/manifesting module can ensure students are on the correct bus, provide an instant manifest of bus riders if needed, send text and email notifications and can include bus stop information with each tag read as students enter and exit the bus,” said Kenneth Ratton, President of Radiant RFID. Radiant’s busride solution also provides enhanced safety benefits as it can monitor students near or in the vicinity of a bus and even ensure no students are left behind on a bus.

Combined with Motorola’s FX 7400 readers, Radiant RFID’s innovative, passive RFID platform detects directionality of student on or off the bus, reads multiple RFID tags at once, uses standard Gen 2 protocol, and stores and forwards RFID passive tag reads and associated data when communication is not available. Radiant’s solution also enables asset tracking using RFID as well as student accountability with one affordable, modern and integrated RFID solution.

Radiant RFID Expands Relationship With Texas Department of Public Safety to Include Statewide Asset Tracking

Radiant RFID’s Asset Management Solution Now Tracking Over $1 Billion in Assets

rfid solutionsAUSTIN, Texas -- Radiant RFID is pleased to announce a landmark partnership with the Texas Department of Public Safety for RFID asset tracking. In this new partnership, the DPS will now utilize Radiant RFID’s adaptive suite of asset tracking system tools to manage and track the locations of their highly diverse and mobile inventory of assets such as computer equipment and protective gear.

texas department public safety logo“We have been working with Radiant RFID for several years using their services to locate evacuees during hurricane evacuations while also ensuring our emergency management equipment and related mobile devices are kept in a constant state of readiness,” said Texas DPS Chief Information Officer, Mark Doggett. “It made sense for us to significantly expand our existing relationship with Radiant RFID and apply their innovative technology to solve the challenge of tracking large numbers of devices and equipment across the State of Texas.”

Unlike most asset management tools, Radiant RFID’s passive rfid system helps the DPS know where the asset is located or if it has been transferred to another department, not just it’s cost center or depreciated value. Radiant RFID’s online asset transfer functionality eliminates paper forms and manual entries previously required to transfer equipment and assets as people and their items moved from department to department.

The new online asset transfer system sends an email to the receiving department’s property custodian which then accepts or rejects an asset transfer request. Radiant RFID’s system also keeps a detailed history of where the asset has been and where the asset is currently located. Utilizing the latest in RFID technology from Motorola/Symbol®, Radiant’s Virtual Asset Tracker enables monitoring of all types of assets used by the DPS.

“We are proud to expand our relationship with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the state’s premier law enforcement agency,” said Cynthia Rubio-Ratton, president & co-founder of Radiant RFID. “Similar to many large corporations, the Texas DPS needs to know the physical location of their numerous assets - at any given point in time. Through the use of GPS and RFID asset tracking technology, Radiant’s solution helps the DPS to know the location of all of their assets – even if the assets are transferred to a new location or department.”
