Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso Deploys Campus-Wide RFID Asset Tracking

rfid inventory tracking universityWhat started with a few doors and one handheld RFID reader a few years ago has now grown into a campus-wide, enterprise deployment for RFID asset tracking covering the entire Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) in El Paso, Texas.

Radiant RFID announces today that TTUHSC will use Radiant RFID’s Virtual Asset Tracker (VAT) across all buildings and departments on campus to track the physical location of assets and will receive immediate notification of asset movement.

“We started working with Radiant in 2008 at the Clinical Simulation Lab. We were very pleased with the performance of the RFID solution and looked forward to rolling it out to the entire campus. RFID asset tracking will help us in many ways including audit response, shortening the time it takes to conduct our inventories, reporting asset disposition and increasing the overall security of our assets. Around our campus we have many different types of equipment and our plan is to tag and track all assets within TTUHSC” said David Porras, Director of Inventory.

“The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center project is a testament to the overall benefits of Radiant RFID’s asset tracking solution. When RFID Journal highlighted our solution at TTUHSC in the October 2010 issue it had been two years since we had installed Virtual Asset Tracker.” said Kenneth Ratton, Radiant RFID’s Vice President of Sales. “We are very pleased that our customer continues to recognize value two years after our initial installation and that they have selected Radiant RFID as the solution of choice for asset tracking for all items located at the El Paso, Texas campus.”

Radiant RFID’s Virtual Asset Tracker is a complete solution of RFID tags, readers, and software designed to track the physical location of assets. Virtual Asset Tracker utilizes the latest in RFID products from Motorola including the MC3090-Z RFID Handheld and the FX7400 Fixed RFID Reader. Virtual Asset Tracker's features include email notification, online asset transfer, check-in and check-out functionality and a full reporting suite. With an easy to use interface, users have the flexibility to define the item information they would like to view as well as create custom reports.

City of Fort Worth Selects Radiant RFID’s Asset Tracking Solution

rfid softwareFORT WORTH, Texas - Radiant RFID today announced that the City of Fort Worth, Texas has selected Radiant RFID's asset tracking system, Virtual Asset Tracker, to inventory and locate all items purchased by the city using federal grant money.

Virtual Asset Tracker is a complete solution of RFID software, hardware and tags that enables customers to quickly answer the question, “Where is that...?” for any asset. The City of Fort Worth is tracking everything from radios to computers to robots used by the bomb disposal unit – anything funded by federal grants.

The city purchased Radiant RFID’s Software-as-a Service option and went live quickly with a complete RFID solution. “Speed and accuracy were important to us,” said Eric Carter, Homeland Security Grants Manager, City of Fort Worth Office of Emergency Management.

"We knew Radiant RFID from their work with the State of Texas for Evacuation Management and were comfortable with their level of expertise with RFID and asset tracking. We learned a great deal just from the setup process about how to organize our asset system. Once we set up our data and selected RFID tags, we were able to instantly track and locate items. As we continue to add assets to our database, this will prove a tremendous help during inventories and audits.”

“Radiant was able to rapidly deploy a complete solution to the City of Fort Worth by hosting the software and completing all setup activities prior to going on-site for training,” said Kenneth Ratton, Vice President of Sales at Radiant RFID. “We spent time with the City of Fort Worth to understand their requirements and challenges and now they are moving from a time intensive, manual inventory process to an RFID asset tracking solution that enables them to quickly and effectively track the physical location of assets.”

The City of Fort Worth is using the Motorola MC3090-Z RFID handheld running the latest release of Virtual Asset Tracker. A variety of RFID provide desired read ranges on plastic, metal and other surfaces. Radiant RFID’s Software-as-a-Service option includes on-site training.

Lamar University Chooses Radiant RFID's Asset Management Solution

Lamar University, a member of the Texas State University System, has installed Virtual Asset Tracker, an asset tracking solution created by Radiant RFID, to track all capital and inventory items on campus.

“When we first met Radiant we were impressed by the technology” said Diane Thibodeaux, Director of Facilities at Lamar University. “They listened to the problems we were trying to solve and had the experience and track record to make us feel comfortable with their asset tracking solution.”

Radiant RFID’s solution uses the latest in passive and active RFID tags, handheld and fixed RFID readers, and robust software to drive value to the inventory and asset tracking process. The Radiant solution can act as a stand alone application or integrate to existing software if required. The user has flexibility to define the information they would like to view as well as create custom reports.

“I would characterize the Radiant team as high touch”, said Diane. “Now that we are up and running one of the areas where we were most pleased with was the support and instruction we received during our installation. The Radiant team took the time to work with our team, including new members who weren’t involved in the purchasing decision, and make sure we were comfortable with the software, the readers, and the tags. Now we have regularly scheduled calls where can work through any additional questions we might have during our initial usage.”

With the successful implementation at Lamar University, the Texas State University System continues to expand the usage of Radiant RFID’s Virtual Asset Tracker. Each additional university within the system manages their own individual database of assets while leveraging the overall system investment.
