Houston Airport Systems Chooses Radiant RFID’s Virtual Asset Tracker to Inventory and Locate Flight Display Equipment

radio waves

AUSTIN, Texas – Radiant RFID today announced that Houston Airport Systems has selected the technology company’s Virtual Asset Tracker (VAT), a passive-based RFID asset tracking solution to inventory and track flight display equipment positioned around the terminals at Bush Houston Intercontinental Airport.

Like many of Radiant’s customers, Houston Airport Systems has moved from a barcode-based system to RFID technology to reduce inventory time and effort. VAT not only handles the “where is my…” question with speed, reliability, and ease, it also enables managers and chief financial officers to successfully respond to audits while improving overall asset tracking accuracy and efficiency.

Prior to implementing RFID, inventories were done during off hours and required shutting down or limiting access in walkways and terminals due to the heavy equipment required to access the assets’ barcodes. RFID technology eliminates line-of-sight requirements. During the inventory process, VAT quickly reports what assets are assigned to, located within, or missing from a location.  This information enables administrators to rapidly and accurately reconcile inventory and account for asset movement, reducing inventory time by 90% and greatly increasing visibility.

VAT’s leading-edge capabilities enable customers like Houston Airport Systems to better solve complex organizational challenges. The solution features real-time notification when assets are moved between locations, advanced mapping, logic-based reporting and subscriptions with automated asset flagging, an easy-to-use, modern UI with configurable dashboards, and API integration.

The solution’s ability to seamlessly integrate into other systems of record was of key importance in the selection process. Radiant’s customers typically have existing systems that track maintenance, depreciation, and other items for assets - but not physical location.

Radiant is deploying a passive-based RFID solution that includes UHF Gen2 RFID tags, hosted RFID software,  on-site training, and VAT 2Go, the mobile companion app to VAT. By pairing an iOS or Android smartphone or tablet to an RFID sled, the app delivers all the functionality of a traditional handheld reader.

Carnegie Mellon University Chooses Radiant RFID’s Virtual Asset Tracker

AUSTIN, Texas – Carnegie Mellon University has selected Virtual Asset Tracker (VAT), Radiant RFID’s end-to-end asset management solution, to manage asset security and location visibility for the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department’s  IT assets and test equipment.

Radiant is the industry leader in higher education IT asset management, enabling customers to track and manage over 500,000 assets across hundreds of campuses. Because many assets are purchased with grant funding, Carnegie Mellon required a solution that would allow them to quickly and successfully respond to audits and improve overall asset tracking accuracy and efficiency.

By automating data collection, RFID technology vastly reduces human effort – and error. Traditional methods such as bar codes and spreadsheets are time consuming and inaccurate.  Because RFID technology reads multiple tags at once without requiring a line of site, customers are able to more quickly and accurately locate assets, respond to audits, and reduce maverick spend.

Radiant RFID is deploying a passive RFID solution that includes traditional handheld and fixed RFID readers, UHF Gen2 RFID tags, hosted RFID software, on-site training, and ongoing customer support.  Additionally, Carnegie Mellon University will utilize Radiant’s new VAT2Go smartphone app for greater visibility and tracking of assets.

Like many customers, Carnegie Mellon has multiple software systems in use at the university and needed VAT to seamlessly integrate and share data with these systems.  Radiant’s Automated Import and Export Module makes this process easy, consistent and reliable and will enable finance and property management to focus on better asset utilization and tracking.

During an audit, VAT quickly reports what assets are assigned to, located within, or missing from a location.  This information enables administrators to rapidly and accurately reconcile inventory and account for asset movement from room to room, building to building, and even campus to campus, thus saving time and money while fostering a philosophy of reuse.

Radiant’s VAT customers track and manage millions of assets every day. Carnegie Mellon University joins Radiant’s large family of higher education customers that utilize the asset tracking solution to keep track of equipment, furniture, vehicles, laptops, data center assets, and more.

Radiant RFID Awarded Asset Management Contract for New York’s Borough of Manhattan Community College

radio waves

NEW YORK, New York – The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), the largest college in the City University of New York system, selected Radiant RFID’s Virtual Asset Tracker (VAT) to better track and manage its highly diverse and mobile assets.

As educational institutions accelerate technology adoption, keeping up with devices and equipment becomes increasingly critical. By RFID-enabling BMCC’s asset management system, administrators can inventory campus assets quickly and accurately with far less effort than legacy barcode systems.

Virtual Asset Tracker is an end-to-end RFID solution that features web-based modules for asset tracking, departmental transfers, notifications, and custom reporting. Many customers use the Automated Import and Export Tool and the Web Services API to integrate Virtual Asset Tracker to ERP systems including Oracle, SAP, SunGard, and others. Radiant’s smart device application, VAT2GO, can be used on any iOS or Android device and allows users to utilize existing hardware for better asset tracking and asset management.

During an audit, VAT quickly reports what assets are assigned to, located within, or missing from a room. This information enables administrators to quickly and accurately reconcile inventory and account for item movement from room to room, building to building, and even campus to campus -- saving time and money while fostering a philosophy of reuse.

BMCC will implement the solution campus-wide to perform regular audits and “spot checks” throughout the year as well as improve the security and visibility into mobile assets. The project was awarded through Radiant’s GSA contract.

Radiant’s customers use VAT to track and manage over four million dynamic items every day. Kenneth Ratton, Radiant chief financial officer, said, “With broad experience serving large organizations, colleges, and universities, we are qualified to meet complex challenges unique to large educational organizations. We’re excited to bring our knowledge and experience to BMCC.”
